The Messiah Vine
Celebrating the Redemptive Work of God
THE MESSIAH VINE includes a devotional book and 39 unique ornaments, all of which are hand-made by me. They are carefully crafted out of a variety of media: clay, wood, fabric, paper, twigs, twine, etc., creating an aesthetically rich seasonal display. The ornaments may be hung on an artificial vine, a ribbon, a small Christmas tree, a branch, or just placed in a basket - anything that fits your style.
Why The Messiah Vine
I designed THE MESSIAH VINE to help celebrate both the birth and the resurrection of Christ. Often, Advent and Lent are treated as completely separate seasons. But they aren’t separate events - they are one beautiful, connected, REAL story! I actually wrote The Messiah Vine for my own family out of my frustration that most Advent resources leave Jesus in the manger at Christmas and the realization that there are few resources available that mark Easter in a way that is cohesive with the whole scope of the Bible.
Jesus was not only the Baby of Bethlehem - He is also the Creator of the universe, the Savior of the world, and the Lord of eternity!
THE MESSIAH VINE will help you weave both seasons together. As you progress through the Advent and Lenten seasons, you will focus on some of the main events in God’s work of redemption. You might think of The Messiah Vine as a timeline that depicts God’s plan from before creation into eternity. During the Advent season, The Messiah Vine devotional will guide you with daily readings and ornaments covering creation to Jesus’ boyhood. During the Lenten season, there are weekly readings and ornaments which focus on the “I am” statements of Christ, and then, for Holy Week, there are readings and symbols for Maundy Thursday through Easter. As with all traditions, the symbols and readings of The Messiah Vine become more precious as they are enjoyed year after year.
Customers have told me that their Messiah Vines have become an important family tradition; that their children are eager to open the familiar box as Advent approaches; that it's given them a sense of the Bible's chronology and an understanding of key events in redemptive history.
About me
I am Kathi Lambrides Westlund:
a "retired" homeschool mom of five with a passion for simple practices that weave our life
of faith into our daily practices.
The Messiah Vine is part of our seasonal patterns.
My prayer
As I make and prepare the Vines, I pray for those who will use them - that as they journey along the Messiah Vine during their Advent and Lenten seasons, they would know the reality of the promised, risen, and reigning Messiah. And that they would say, with the disciples: "We have found the Messiah. (John 1:41)"
The Devotional
The Messiah Vine booklet was written with all ages in mind.
The readings can be skimmed over or dug into - depending on the time available and the mood of the participants.
Some years, our family has read every word and passage - some years, we've just hung the symbols -
and some years, our Messiah Vine hasn't come out of the box!
It is best used to make a memorable tradition, not an ironclad duty.
For everything there is a season...
The Messiah came for our faith and hope!
As Peter wrote about the coming of the Messiah: "You were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God." (1 Peter 1:18-21 - ESV)
